It is owned by you, that should not be the problem. The 600 is correct, since 
other people shall not be able to read your mails.

I think is has to do something with file locking which seems not to work on 
NFS that way we do it. There was a change, because formerly locking didn't 
work at all which resulted in mail loss for some people. It seems, that 
before the release no one tested on NFS.

Things should be discussed via the bug system, in this case see 
http://bugs.kde.org/db/14/14078.html. For other discussions see the archive 
at http://lists.kde.org/ for the kmail list. Private discussion is of course 
not archived. If the bug is fixed then it usually is closed, that means it 
disappears from http://bugs.kde.org/db/pa/lkmail.html. Since you submitted 
the report, you will get automatically a mail then.
