Eudora handles this quite well. I don't use it anymore as you might guess but
this is an exctract of an html email reply. If kmail shows this, the cited 
text is right indented. Eudora would put a vertical gray line to the left of 
this html block (or several if multi level reply). In Eudora, it was easy to 
put my replies in between the html text, everything still looked correct. If
you want to, I could try to find such an example in my archives.

So this is what Eudora does: blockquote.
