Nope. mail (uid 8) is some kind of system account with its own group (gid 
12). No idea for what, it's not sendmail. Maybe for the MDA? But definately 
it's not intended to add users to that group. The mailboxes are created as
-rw-rw----    1 malte    mail            0 Sep 28 15:57 malte
