DCOP is KDE's Desktop Communication Protocol. It allows to make calls from
one application to another. It is based around an object model similair to the
one used by Qt. An application can create a so called DCOPObject that defines
an interface that can be called from other applications.

See for more information e.g. a recent version of kdelibs/dcop/HOWTO. KMail
defines a DCOP interface in kmailIface.h, the other kmailIface files get
autogenerated from this.

There is also a DCOP browser which shows all running applications with a DCOP
interface, shows which objects they have available and the functions that they
define. (see e.g. kdelibs/dcop/client/dcop)

Cheers,
Waldo
