i just did an entire rebuild of brand new cvs code; same result, 
except for when i move ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc out of the way, in 
which case i get that goofy little crash window informing me that 
kmail got an 11 and do i want to send a bug report.

| processes and start them again as detailed below.

this is after a full reboot. mighty puzzling.
