Please file your wishes on bugs.kde.org.
Searching on custom tags is definitely a feature we need to add.

BTW, the kmail-devel mailing list is pretty much unused these days.
kde-pim@kde.org is what we use for the developers.
Users questions should go to kdepim-users@kde.org.
