I agree with observation the settings dialog is not intuitive. Besides, the even doc \
does not help Special transport: "Select or enter an alternative SMTP server to be \
used when sending messages using this identity."

I still don't know alternative TO WHAT is this special transport. In other words, \
when I leave it empty what happens? _______________________________________________
