Kmail just crashed out of the blue.  I was not looking at the window
where it was at the time, but one of the mail boxes (mbox format) it
monitors looks like it had just received a fresh message, and there
was a lock file for that box present.

I am running Fedora Core 5 on i686, where kmail is part of the
kdepim-3.5.2-0.1.fc5 package.

The error message was:

QGArray::at: Absolute index -536815616 out of range
*** KMail got signal 11 (Crashing)
KCrash: Application 'kmail' crashing...
