Actually this was what I was doing before but kmail crashed on me so often and I think it was imap related (there are two bugs in bugzilla coming into question) so I wanted to move away from it. But it seems as if there is no other elegant possibility to do that so I will stick with the imap server. I also think that the imap server doesn't matter, it really is kmail so that's why I was trying to find a workaround. I don't want to switch to another mail program though since I am in love with kmail and I can't work that efficient with any other mail program.
