This seems to happen to me quite often, even when using an IMAP server on our LAN here. But perhaps in this case a message queued to be filtered and in process of being fetched was deleted. I would have thought the serial number would have become invalid in this case and the code would have caught this, but perhaps some exceptional case was missed. Please note I could be wrong, this is just my best guess.
