------- I think it should be reasonably easy to get interoperability for maildirs, \
and I would be surprised if it was too hard for mboxes. The key element to being \
interoperable for maildirs is to treat the base file name of an individual message as \
a unique key, i.e., the part before the colon. (This part is guaranteed to be unique \
by the way in which maildirs are written. Message IDs are unique in theory, but not \
in practice.) All you have to do to synchronize your index is a usual opendir() \
readdir() closedir() cycle on the cur/ and new/ subdirs, and parsing the filenames. \
Likewise, to synchronize a maildir to your index, you have to rename the files \
accordingly. There is no need whatsoever to re-parse the messages in this case.
