I am still having this problem with a SVN version that just compiled.
There is a bug in kspell (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75937) but in all other \
programs changing the dictionary language works (konqueror, kwrite) so I guess it's \
only happening in kmail.

Could others please confirm this?
As a result of this crash the following bug happened during that crash or at the next \
restart of kmail. (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104956#c32) \
