I agree with you, that it's worth updateing.

IIRC, before the mail loss (3 times in a week from 2 different boxes with KDE 3.4.2 from SUSE and copiled 3.5 sources) I was working almost always with kmail and NOT with kontact.

so I am back working with kmail, which I have used without mail loss also for  some years now.
