Having used kmail for about 3 years now, there's been one ongoing problem that
I've perpetually hoped to see resolved. Until now, it hasn't been bothersome
enough to look into but now I've got a mail server that's acting a little
funny and kmail has been a real pain.

kmail is completely incapable of dealing with imap servers which do not
gracefully disconnect. The problem has, in fact, gotten worse a/o 3.3.1. If a
server disappears from the network, kmail will respond with a pop-up
notification acknowledging that it has lost connectivity. While this is an
improvement over older versions, there is seemingly no way to restore sane
operation without shutting down kde and killing the remaining kmail-related
processes (process cleanup is another ongoing problem with kmail). An empty
Inbox is shown, instead, for the server in question. Oddly, other folders for
the same server seem to recover fine.

This behavior is consistent across multiple machines. If someone can identify
a particular process that would be worthwhile to examine, I'd be happy to
provide a trace or whatever other information might help to resolve this
problem.

thanks
-josh
