           Summary: smtp error message incorect
           Product: kmail
           Version: 1.6.2
          Platform: unspecified
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kmail-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: j.cook siliconriver com au

Version: 1.6.2 (using KDE 3.2.3, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-7)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.7-1-686

Using ethereal i see that the server's error line is:
550 Error: User does not exist.
(that is after the . (which is after the DATA\n ..... "dot"\n)

However, kmail says the error is: ...
The server responded: "Error: User does not exist." does not exist.

It should be:
The server responded: "Error: User does not exist."

or better still:
The server responded: (code: 550) "Error: User does not exist."

Damn ... i didn't realize how bad that message box was.

Sending failed:

The file or folder The message content was not accepted.

The server responded: "Error: User does not exist." does not exist.

The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a \
broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.

The following transport protocol was used:

SR - Local Only

what the hell is this?
