Summary: 'Show system tray on new mail' label misleading
           Product: kmail
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: unspecified
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kmail-devel@kde.org
        ReportedBy: bart@gigabee.com

Version: unknown (using KDE 3.1.95-0.fdr.0.1, Red Hat Linux (Yarrow))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.2 20031022 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.2-1)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.1-1.126

When I turned on the 'Show system tray on new mail' option in Kmail, I expected an \
icon to be placed in Konqueror for a few seconds after it did a mail check, similar \
to how the Kmail statusbar shows the total of new messages after it does a mail \
check. But instead of that total of new messages, the icon is displayed with a total \
of all my *unread* email. I think the label for now should be changed to 'Show system \
tray on unread mail', but a real option for showing the system tray only on *new* \
mail (since unread mail can be days, weeks, months old...) would be nice too.

I get a lot of mail on a daily basis (like everyone, I'm sure) and there's a lot that \
I don't read and don't end up deleting. So in effect, the system tray icon is always \
on whether I select 'Always show system tray' or the 'on new mail' option with a \
really high number like the 1020 I have now. A few seconds ago I manually checked my \
email and it'd be nice if the icon instead just said "7" like the "Transmission \
complete. 7 new messages." I get in the status bar.

Maybe Kmail should do a running total of new messages for people who have internal \
mail checking turned on so that if someone has their mail check every fifteen \
minutes, the number doesn't get erased by the next "new mail" total if it's been a \
while since they gave focus to Kmail. For example, if we're talking about a 30-minute \
period with Kmail running in the background having done two automatic mail checks, \
where the first is 8 minutes and the second says 3, the system tray icon should say \
"11" instead of "3" and go away a few seconds after I gave focus to my Kmail window \
(or read a message?). _______________________________________________
