Some info on this topic that could be used as tip of the day:

When I analyze older discussions which I had with other people, then my own answers \
are in the sent-messages folder, but not in the input-thread.

Solution that already works in KMail 1.6: When the messages from the sent-messages \
folder are moved to the input folder, then these threads are merged correctly and \
contain both, the sent and received messages. (Very useful!)

Idea: Could KMail try to detect if an answer to a received mail exists in the \
sent-messages folder and make it accessible somehow? (E.g. by adding "Go to sent \
response" to the context menu, when right-clicking a message, or offer an option that \
tries to add such messages to the thread instead of the sent-folder automatically.) \
