Just my 2 cent, if the selection works correctly again with 
Ctrl-Left/Right plus Ctrl-Space as in KDE 3.1, then that would be okay 
for me. The user has anyway to look for keyboard shortcuts in KMail's 
documentation because some shortcuts are not obvious.

OTOH I've tested Till's timeout implementation and I like it. But in the 
end, it will be a question of a policy. Do we have some in KDE which 
would apply here in this case?
