It probably has nothing to do with Kmail.  I was overwhelmed by the
complexity of the bug reporting screens and was happy I could report the bug
at all.  X Windows.... hmmmm.  Is there someone at KDE that works with the
screen portion of the software that might confirm this?  It may be X
Windows, or the way in which the refresh event is handled by the screen
applications?

Sorry, this went to the wrong department.  I actually attempted to change
that and it appeared I would have to start all over with the bug reporting
process.  The bug reporter is likely very good for those familiar with the
KDE subsystems, but not for this user.

screensaver on the login screen? What has that to do with kmail? Strange
pattern
garbage is most likely a X problem
