Changing the font helped. 
 
I choosed now a font where the preview text is not "invisible" of the font configuration 
menu. 
 
I was not aware of the preview text, as my first few fonts in the selection  
windows showed the text invisible. 
But when I scrolled further down choosing different fonts I saw the preview text. :-)
