KMail stores information about IMAP folders in 
~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap.

If you only want to see a few IMAP folders then select "Show only 
subscribed folders" in the configuration of the IMAP server. With KMail 
1.5 you can't subscribe folders, so you have to use another mail 
client, e.g. Mozilla to subscribe the desired folders. In KMail 1.6 it 
will be possible to subscribe folders.
