According to the feature plan for KDE 3.1, KAddressbook now
supports LDAP. Presumably this all interfaces with KMail.

Now, my questions is, does anyone here know how it works?
I'm currently playing around with setting up an OpenLDAP
server for use with SquirrelMail (very nice webmail app),
and I'm hoping to be able to use the same address database
as I'll use for KMail.

What sort of schema does KAddressbook use? I'm looking at
writing my own schema, since none of the standard ones seem
that useful. Am I going to be able to set up KMail/KAddress
to pull out the correct attributes for email addresses for
instance, or does it make assumptions about what attributes
are called, and stick to these? Or does it have it's own
schema (I'm going to have to hack SquirrelMail to support
whatever schema I use anyway, so getting it to use a KDE
one shouldn't be much different)?

Sorry for the slightly off-topic questions - I admit lazyness
in not subscribing to another list to ask a single question.

And yes, I'm going to install 3.1 and find out for myself,
but that's going to take a few days (or longer, depending on
how easily everything compiles).

Be seeing you,
Sam.
