KMAIL 1.4.3 on KDE 3.0.5 crashes when scrolling through messages n key.

case scenario:
Linux RH8 2.4.18-18.8.0 i686
imap server as included with RH8 (part of xinetd)
folder on IMAP-server.
folder contains 1800 messages.
current selected message: somewhere in the middle
preview pane: yes
now pressing and holding n.
a couple of hundred messages passes, then kmails crashes.

crypted messages: no
HTML messages: 70%
plaintext messages: 30%
prefer HTML to text: yes
sortorder: Date ascending (new mails at bottom)

reproducebility: 10%-20%

KDE crashandler says:
