BTW, is it required to have two separate icons? Wouldn't one icon with 5 
states:
? - unknown
<blank> - not signed/encrypted
<signature> - signed
<lock> - encrypted
<signed lock> - signed & encrypted

do as well? IIRC the GData GPG plugin for Outlook does this.
