(KMail keeps one file open for every folder.) This bug ("too many open files") has already been fixed for KDE 3.1. I doubt that there will be another KDE 3.0 release (it's already too late for KDE 3.0.4). But we will nevertheless backport the fix. You could then compile the latest KDE_3_0_BRANCH cvs version of KMail yourself (http://developer.kde.org/source/anoncvs.html, you only need to compile mimelib, libkdenetwork and kmail, all from the kdenetwork package). Alternatively you could reduce the number of folders until KDE 3.1 is released.
