that will depend on several things, as i see it, including:

 o how divergent the codebases get (making some bug fixes irrelevant in one 
branch or the other)

 o how motivated those working in each branch are to bringing fixes over from 
the other branch (i believe zack has already done some of this sort of work 
and AFAIK the plan is to regularly sync the fixes in HEAD to the branch)

 o how motivated those working in each branch are to sharing their fixes with 
the other branch. in other words, if someone comes up with a critical fix in 
one branch, a polite and helpful "hey, this really ought to be applied to the 
other branch" would be useful

i don't think anyone can force anything into HEAD, or the branch for that 
matter. it will really be a matter of cooperation and openness between the 
two efforts, with the hope and idea that the seperation of efforts is a 
short-to-mid term solution for a difficult development problem
