Oops. I immediately deleted the two messages from scm2@... Luckily I
just moved them to the trash folder so I could restore them easily. The
messages where indeed truncated.

I downloaded this, created a not truncated html message (with a text
editor) and send it to my local account with sendmail. Then I fetched
it with KMail. As expected it was _not_ truncated.

My conclusion is that KMail didn't truncate the messages.

Next I created another message from the downloaded html page, put it in
my outbox (in KMail), send it to myself (from KMail), fetched it with
fetchmail, checked /var/spool/mail/ingo, fetched it with KMail and
checked it. This test message was also _not_ truncated. But the long
line was broken in two parts. This was probably done by KMail during
sending the message to obey to the rule not to send lines longer than
1000 chars. But this line breaking didn't harm the message. It was
still rendered o.k.

Conclusion: fetchmail also doesn't truncate the messages.

Maybe the program which sends the messages has a bug which causes the
broken messages. Maybe it tries to obey to the 1000 chars per line rule
and fails.

As this is definitely no bug in KMail I close your bug report.

Regards,
Ingo

P.S.: I will send you a copy of the test message which I send myself.

X-KDE-Received: -62.226.49.166

Package: kmail
Version: 1.4.2 (using KDE 3.0.2 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (release)
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

I'm sometimes receiving mails in HTML format which contain very long lines - let's \
say 2000 chars/line.

The rendering of those messages is corrupt because kmail seems to cut lines \
internally at about 1000 chars.

Suggestion which would not break HTML rendering: please do not cut lines, instead \
insert a newline after 500 chars at appropriate place.

Hardy
