Your message with subj: Bug#44499: attached .doc file is renamed to .txt when mail is sent -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 On Saturday 29 June 2002 10:41, bart.symons@skynet.be wrote: > I recently sent a 1-line email with 1 attached .doc file to a > colleague using Outlook. > When my colleague received the mail the attached file was renamed to > .txt. KMail uses the original filename as attached. It asks KDE's mimetype directory for the type of the file and thus should use the same mime type that konqueror reports for the file. The problem is most likely OE, which thinks it needs to outsmart the user and change the extension. If you didn't change the filename from the file attached, then KMail didn't, too. You can check this by looking at the source of the sent mail in the sent-mail folder. I noticed the attachment was tagged as 'text/rtf' When my colleague received the mail the attached file was renamed to .txt. As a consequence when he tried to open it in Word he got an error. Renaming the file back to .doc solved his problem (but not mine, I can't send out .doc files anymore). I'm not sure whether this is a bug or an interoperability problem (maybe even caused by Outlook). But even if it's an interop problem, interop is a major issue for mail clients.
