Never saw such a problem.
Looks, like the problem is your server not responding. Anyway, you are using 
an old version of KMail.

I create several mails and queue them. Then I use
Send queued command. Mail are send out. Then
I wrote next mail and select Send now command.
This mail is forever blocked in output queue
(Dislayed message Sending message $subject).
I kill this message getting warning that
message all subsequent messagges cannot be send.
The message becomes queued. I use Send queued
but with the same result.

At the same time I am able to send message using
same smtp server from netscape.
