Yes, In Configure KMail > Network > Recving > {Add|Modify} Account > General tab

and did you set "Size of messages to filter" to a low value,

Size of messages to Filter: 1.

On 1 message I got something about a message exceding the maximum size limit -- what \
did I want to do with it? I checked the radio button under the green check mark. 
There is no text saying what those different options mean, and no tool tips - I have \
no idea what the different options mena, and I doubt many other people do either. \
Very un-intuitive. You can see a picture of that here:

I am completely unable to understand what that's all about, especially as it only \
seems to be a few message that "excede the maximum size limit".

Also the KDE KMail manual indicates that "Delete mail from server" will delete \
matching messages without downloading them.  I wonder if that will properly apply to \
messages that were previously donwloading them -- if KMail is skipping them by \
message ID entireyly, it's probably not filtering them in order to know that they are \
"now" old.

I belive you are correct. This is such a maddening issue, it seems so small yet it is \
preventing me from really using Kmail. In the process, it is also preventing me from \
finally doing away with my last Win2k install :-/ unless I want to comit myself to \
constantly rming mesage from the pop3 spool up on the server by hand - which is not \
the goal.

What do other people do -- just let their spool file grow forever?
