This is a bad argument. In the other case the addressbook button also only 
doesn't work for the few users that don't have kdepim installed.

Somehow yes. But I think that a not working action is less evil than 
displaying such an error dialog before KMail even starts.

Silently not displaying the addressbook actions is of couse also no option, 
because then many users don't know that KMail supports an addressbook at all. 

Unlike some other additions like KRegExpEditor the addressbook is an important 
part of a mail client.
