Michael,

Sorry it took me awhile, I had my system in pieces for a few days.. (libpng!).

I'm using kmail with the ~/Mail directory as set up by kmail. I'm guessing 
that's mbox? (The mails are filtered into subfolders from several pop3 
accounts.)

Btw, this is no longer kde-3.0.0 kmail, but compiled from a 3.0.1 tar I got 
from the gentoo kde package maintainer. The bug is still around, in other 
words.
