Dear Aaron, I will start from the beginning. I am not an advanced user but I know how to do basic. I've reinstall Mandrake 8.2 two times. First when I installed I went through all the configuration and one of them was to configure email account (so I did). 1.) First problem is that I can not turn OFF option "Delete mail from server" describe below: When I was first installing Mandrake, I went through the usual setup including setting up email (entering email address etc.) KMail created some kind of account (with no name) in: Setup - Network - Incoming Mail (there should be at least one account). I can not modify or delete this account. I get an error message "unable to locate account" The reason I want to modify this account is that I want to turn OFF option to "Delete mail from server" I can create an additional account and can turn this option OFF but not on the mysterious account "with no name" Though sending and receiving email worked OK. The second time I reinstalled the Mandrake I didn't setup the email account at all and that mysterious account wasn't there but when I configured Kmail the sending email didn't work (only receiving). So I reinstalled Mandrake third time configured the email and found the solution to delete the mysterious account: 1. Remove ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc 2.Configure KMail with it's own config dialog This solution worked but soon the email stopped working. I can send the email out from the command line using "mailto" but not from Kmail. 2.) The Auto Encoding doesn't work. I receive emails from a customer in China on regular basis (their encoding is set to gb2312) and when I receive this email nothing is showing in display till I change the encoding manually to Chinese Simplified (gb2312). | how is your outgoing mail configured? i'm assuming you're using SMTP for this, | so if you could please elaborate on: Under SMTP I have: shawmail.ed.shawcable.net (my ISP) prot 25 It doesn't matter if I configure SMPT or use sendmail, non is working. | | o exactly what settings you have put in the Network -> Sending tab of the | KMail configuration | | and | | o what errors msgs, if any, you get when sending. When I try to send an email the email goes to outbox account and stays there. | | i can then offer an informed suggestion. otherwise, your bug report does not | provide enough information and i'll be forced to (reluctantly) close it. | | i also noticed that you are using kmail from KDE 2.2.2 which uses a completely | different method of sending than the kmail in KDE3. the solution, depending | on your reply to this email, may be to simply upgrade to KDE3. hopefully the | solution is less drastic than that. How to upgrade to KDE3. I will try my best but I need simple instructions Best Regards, Joseph | i look forward to your reply.... | | -- | Aaron Seigo _______________________________________________ KMail Developers mailing list kmail@mail.kde.org http://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kmail
