Okay, I read the manual this time.  I think it needs to be updated.

From the manual:
 
   Signature

   This tab allows you to specify a signature (footer/disclaimer) to be
   appended to each message sent using this identity.

Does "appended to each message sent" mean something different to me than to 
everybody else?
