Well, if you think of a collapsed thread as a "container", then when you
select that container (which happens to be labeled with the first item), then
you would expect any action to afffect the container and all it's contents.
I dunno if other people have the exact same "model" in their heads, but
apparently something along those lines is pretty common.
And I've never used communicator, so I wouldn't know :-)
