Ok, passwords are now imported using the old code.

I guess, with perl you will have a hard job doing calculations with the 
unicode value of utf-8 characters. Also before the code gets rewritten in 
perl and makes mistakes...

I just never imagined, that people have a so big problem with reentering their 
password(s). From KDE 1 to KDE 2 they were also lost and I can't remember 
even one user complaining.

Well, at least I need my passwords nearly daily because they are the same as 
for the shell accounts. Maybe this is different for other people.
