This assumption is wrong. Reiser FS makes sure that your file system
doesn't get corrupted. But it can't prevent data corruption.

The problem you reported is very common with Reiser FS. It happened to
me several times when the X server crashed and took down the whole
system so that I was forced to hard reset my machine. There is nothing
we can do about this. You should report this to the developers of the
Reiser FS.

Subject: All config and filters lost after crash
From: thorsten@th-hornung.de

Package: kmail
Version: KDE 2.2.2
Severity: normal
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

I was just forced to reboot my system.
After switching to console <STRG>+<ALT>+<F1>.
My screen showed that the Computer was sending illegal signals (Wrong Vsync) and shut \
down. Keyboard was dead also and since I have no way to remotely log into the system \
I had to force a cold start using the reset button after about 60 seconds of no \
apparent system activity.

Since I am using REISER FS there has been no obvious data corruption. However when I \
fired up KMail it aparently forgot my entire configuration as well as my filters.

No mail Data seems to be corrupted. Looking at kmailrc everything seems normal except \
for the [Settings] Section. It contains largely "junk" as well as some html code and a \
link to an Internet site I positively never received via Internet Email. However its \
origin is probably from a site I was browsing with Konqueror prior to the crash (I \
don't recall whether the Browser Window was stil open)

Sorry I have no clue why and how this happend or how how to reproduce it. However I \
thought I should inform you about this behaviour.

Cheers,
Thorsten
