As I wrote in my reply to your other bug report messages which are
marked for deletion are physically removed if you compact the folder.
If you want to keep the disk space used by the folders low you should
enable "Compact all folders on exit".

KMail does not save any messages in a temporary folder. It only saves
attachments in the temporary folders because otherwise the attachments
can't be processed by other programs. KMail should delete these
temporary files on exit.

From: t@inode.at

Package: kmail
Version: 1.3.2 (using KDE 2.2.2 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: Debian Package 4:2.2.2-11 (3.0)
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.4 (Debian prerelease)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.17
OS/Compiler notes:

when deleting mails in subfolders of kmail, it does not really delete them from the \
mailbox files -- meaning if you move a big ammount of mail files to another \
directory, it's still physically present in the old mailbox file.

besides of that, kmail is in general taking up too much space; it not only saves the \
messages twice, it also saves them another time in the temporary .kde folder of the \
user home-dir. these features or bugs should all be selectable in the menu-settings \
of kmail, because on systems with small hard drives, i would not use kmail yet.
