The Debian packages are broken, and according to Debian, packages in unstable 
and testing are not supposed to work.
So please don't report any problems until Debian fixes that.

Whenever I compose a new email message and attempt to add an attachment my Kmail \
client crashes and shuts down.  I can restart Kmail with no problems but I still \
can't send attachments.
