If possible you should use IMAP instead of POP because IMAP was
especially designed for this purpose.

No. Because this isn't caused by a bug in KMail but by your POP server
which doesn't seem to support the UIDL command which is the command we
use to determine which messages have already been downloaded.

Someone is working on something similar. (Delete messages from the POP
server without downloading.)

Subject: kmail downloads already downloaded mail
From: mats.rosen@erimus.se

Package: kmail
Version: KDE 2.2.1
Severity: normal
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

Kmail seems not to recognise those mails that are already downloaded from the \
POP-server to the client program. Using POP servers with the option of leaving the \
mails on server makes the Kmail client to fill up with red-marked mails - meaning \
that they are already read by me - in all the different folders they are directed to. \
This problem was recognised in KDE 1.1 and I thought you would have fixed it already \
in KDE 2.0. The problem is that I cant find any better email client, but when I have \
to delete about 200-300 mails from 20 differents folders twice or trice aday, I maybe \
have to reconsider. This too tiring.

Since I work from two different workstations and one laptop I have to get hold of my \
mail regardless where I am. Thats why I have to keep the mail on the server.

Question 1: Do have any intention to fix this?
Q 2: Why dont you put in a option of deleting mails from the POP-server after X days? \
Now I have to keep a couple of hundred mails only to see to that I can be able to \
download the last let say three days mails to another pc.

I am very keen on keeping Kmail as client and I dont want to go back to Netscape nor \
Evolution, but this bug is so irritating. Best regards
Mats
