Could you please tell me according to which RFC KMail MUST do it your 
way?

That's what the identities in the configuration dialog are for. 
Additionally you can use filters to set the right identity for incoming 
messages.
Simply create a new identity "a@t.com" with a@t.com in the email address 
field and then create a filter which sets this identity on messages 
which are sent to a@t.com, i.e. which have this address in the To or Cc 
field.
