Do I understand correctely, that these mails are lost then (deleted without 
downloading)?

That would be very nice. SMTP over SSL and TLS is completely untested, since I 
don't have a server that support any of these. Possibly George Staikos tested 
the SMTP slave, when he implemented that, but that was some time ago.
