Subject: Bug#33240: Kmail crashes randomly, normally when idle

Package: kmail
Version: 1.3.1 (using KDE 2.2.1 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc 2.95.3
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified
First, I'd like to say that I love kmail (apart from when it breaks). Keep up the \
great work!
Periodically kmail crashes with a backtrace. This happens fairly regularly, and has \
been doing so since I installed KDE 2.2. I was hoping that KDE 2.2.1 (kmail 1.3.1) \
would fix the problem. Since it's only been installed for a couple of hours, and it's \
crashed already, I assume it's not fixed.
I see references to similar problems in other bug reports, but these seem to refer to \
NFS mounted directories, or an empty inbox, neither of which is true in my case.
I do use a few filters on incoming mail, which all transfer messages to other \
mailboxes. Some of these may be empty at the time. I probably have 200 mailboxes in \
about 30 nested folders.
Since the crashes occur spontaneously when I am not directly using kmail, it seems \
likely to be related to mail polling.
I have 16 accounts defined, all set for POP. I regularly use 6 of these, two are for \
local pop servers, one for local mail, the other 3 for ISP POP mail. They have a \
variety of polling times from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours.
This is first stack trace I've looked at, so I'm not sure it's always the same. This \
one looks more gui related.
I am comfortable patching / rebuilding stuff if required...
The most annoying thing about the crash is that on restarting kmail, the highlighting \
for mailboxes with new messages goes away. Some way of fixing this would be great.
Regards
/nick
