I think this is not that important, at least not for me personally :-)
Even if I had a legal copy I still need NT since it probably doesn't run won 
Win95 and vmvare, since KMail doesn't run on Windows at all.
The installation trouble is in any case probably much more effort, that the 
actual fixing.

MAPI only allows a windows application to send mail via the default mail 
client. How to you want to have that in KMail? With windows application 
running under wine opening a KMail composer?

KDE has dcop for this task.
