Well, experience so far as I have already answered lots of reports about this problem. This has been reported to the XFree86 team already some time before 4.1. AFAIR someone even wrote a xlib only application that demonstated the problem, but in 4.1 it seems to be still there. The problem is, that I myself can't reproduce it, so I can't really ask the X people myself, what's up. I'm using the mach64 driver. Just after 5000 characters in an line edit field all characters before the cursor become invisible, but it does neither crash nor freeze. If you want to do something about it, first find out, if it really doesn't freeze with anti aliasing disabled (can be done in KControl). I can't say for sure that no different problem has the same symptom of course. If it is gone with that you can report the problem to the X developers. "killall -6 kmail" when it's frozen should also pop up a crashmanager that shown some information.
