Have you ever tried to send a patch to the Linux Kernel Mailing List as 
attachment? A lot of people just ignore what they cannot read directly.

That does not work every time. There are more whitespaces/tabs in the 
copy&paste patch than in saved messages. 
These extra white spaces confuse the patch-tool, all hunks fail.
So copy&paste a patch with tabs and whitespaces into a mail, sending it, 
copy&paste it back results in a different file with more whitespaces in every 
line. 
This might be related to tab/white space conversion
