I do run LyX successfully on Digital Unix 4.0c. Compilation has been
done with gcc 2.7.2.3, gcc 2.8.1 and DEC cxx 6.1. I did not try egcs
though. It would be pretty nice to have at least a gdb backtrace of
the crash.
