I don't think xdg-utils is to blame, neither is kde-config. Both only do their job.

(even the usage of /proc/self/exe is okay)

It is rather (K)Ubuntu's use of a unioned filesystem that leads to this problems. And \
can be solved by using another unioned filesystem ;-).

I would remove that entry again, because there really is nothing xdg-devels could do \
about this issue.
