Apparantly the JSSE (SSL support for applets) works fine too.

I don't know if you have had much feedback on Java support on Alpha, but just 
to let you know I have been running the Compaq Java 2 kit on an Alpha system 
under Redhat 7.0 and 7.1 and Konquerer V2.2 with  no problems, this works 
very well although a little slow at times(this is due to the Compaq JVM).

both the JDK and JRE are available from 

www.compaq.com/java/alpha/index.html
