I have it running here, and I couldn't believe it, everything works :-)
I can open lan:/, this redirects to lan://localhost/, I can open 
lan.//localhost/my_host, I can open lan://localhost/my_host/ftp (or smb or 
nfs or http) and the new items are listed correctly even under the correct 
item :-)
